Picky can certainly have a negative connotation — and in, someone who’s “picky” is notoriously difficult. A picky eater might be hard to go out to eat with because they are very particular about what they like. A picky dater might have a very extensive checklist that their potential partner needs to meet. But I'm here to tell you that sometimes (most of the time), being picky is okay — and one area of my life that I find myself extremely selective in is when it comes to my wardrobe.

It’s not that I don’t like a lot of things — I really am down to wear and try every new piece or trend out there. For me, being picky about what I put into my closet is all about curation; as I’ve gotten older, I’ve worked to create a more curated, well-rounded wardrobe chock-full of well-made pieces that won’t break at first wear (yes, I’ve had those, and no, I won’t go back).

I prefer to invest in slightly pricier pieces for the sake of quality, but every now and then (and the time is now!), these “pricey” pieces get a massive price slash. During Amazon’s October Prime Day, some seriously expensive brands have officially entered the realm of “affordable,” which means I will, in fact, be making them mine. But there are also some more affordable labels that are now even more, well, affordable, and I’m also eyeing those pieces.

Below, see all the items I, a notoriously picky shopper, think are worth adding to your closet for the season ahead.

Best Early Prime Day Deals

Hudson Remi High-Rise Straight-Leg Jean

Amazon

Amazon

$215

$65

I have a lot of jeans — and that’s because denim is one of my favorite categories. That said, my love for blues has also made me quite the expert on the subject matter, and one brand I’ve loved and worn for years is Hudson, a label that also counts Katie Holmes and Beyoncé as fans. They’re well made and seriously lift my butt, but they can run on the pricier side. However, when I saw this pair for 70 percent off, I screamed because I thought it was too good to be true. But it’s not. These $215 jeans can now be yours for $65 — no, that's not a typo and yes, these might just be your new favorite jeans.

Cybling Round-Toe Ankle-Strap Mary Janes

Amazon

Amazon

$50

$36

It’s simply undeniable that Mary Janes are the ‘It’ shoe of 2023. If you take a look at some recent celebrity outfits, you’ll see that just about everyone — from supermodels like Gigi Hadid to industry icons like Diane Keaton — have all stepped out in some iteration of the darling, nostalgia-inducing style that’s showing zero signs of fading. While I already own several pairs, I’ll be making this super cute, slightly grungy pair my own, ASAP. In fact, I’m going to follow the lead of all the cool girls out there, and wear them with frilly, dainty crew socks.

Enza Costa Rib Fitted Half-Sleeve Crew Neck Top

Amazon

Amazon

$123

$93

Some might say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I beg to differ. I say a sleek, fitted, ultra-flattering black bodysuit is a girl’s best friend (hey, at least it’s mine) because a) it’ll never let you down b) it can accompany you through it all and c) it’s comforting (err, comfortable). Not all bodysuits are created equally, but this ultra-flattering designer option from Enza Costa is easily among the best. The fit? It looks incredible. The fabric? Seamless and comfy. Not to mention, the half-sleeves are ideal for this time of year.

Calvin Klein Seductive Comfort Unlined Lace Bra

Amazon

Amazon

$49

$27

I know you understand what I'm about to say: When you put on a sexy bra, you feel nearly invincible. It’s like it’s your own little secret that no one else knows about. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate sexy (and pretty) lingerie, and I totally think everyone should wear it on a daily basis — not just for special occasions. That’s why I’m always on the search for a new style, and when I came across this Calvin Klein option, I stopped scrolling and immediately pressed add to cart. It’s simple, but quietly sexy thanks to its all-over lace design and scalloped detailing. Love!

Astr the Label Keava Dress

Amazon

Amazon

$148

$119

I don’t need to say much about this dress because the price speaks for itself. However, I’m always on the lookout for a good, flowy, easy-to-wear dress, and this Astr the Label find is just that. Sure, we’re entering fall, and this isn’t necessarily fall-y, but I have enough trips to tropical places lined up that it still makes sense for me to invest in it. It’s made from a linen-blend, which I love, and it has a subtly sexy V-neckline plus a leg slit. I’ll be wearing this with everything from sneakers to my espadrilles, and honestly, I’m even considering buying it in both colors.
