I’m a Fashion Editor and All I Want for the Holidays Is This Super Basic Scarf

I have a closet stocked with designer bags, cashmere sweaters and jeans that are way more expensive than they should be. But this year, the only item on my holiday wish list is the Canada Scarf from Acne Studios. Oh yeah, and I’ll take any color, especially if it’s gray. Seems silly, right? Let me explain.

As a fashion editor, I’m apparently hard to shop for. And I get it; I shop for a living, which means I accumulate more and more discerning tastes (and stronger opinions) as the days and weeks go on. So, when the holidays roll around, my family members tend to feel intimidated by the process of selecting a present for me, wondering what I think is “cool” at the time or whether I’ll find their gift “worthy.”

But here’s a short list of things I hate: Being cold, being cold on a plane and being cold in my office.

Winter in New York is tough for me, but I’ve discovered that a large, cushy scarf is able to solve all three of my aforementioned woes—or at least make them slightly more bearable.

Hey, family, if you’re reading this, I think a status scarf would be a perfectly worthy present. Especially if said cold-weather accessory is knit from wool and finished with a wave of fringe.

So, why this particular Acne style? For one, it’s big enough to double as a blanket on long-haul flights but not so cumbersome that it could cause an issue at security. The Swedish-designed accessory can also be wrapped around my neck on days when the office is particularly chilly without drawing stares from my coworkers. (However, it is worth noting that those who don’t love the slightly oversized shape will appreciate the same style in a slightly slimmer version that happens to be $30 cheaper.)

Which brings me to my last point: I would probably not shell out $180 on a scarf for myself on any given Tuesday. However, for a very generous family member (ahem, Grandma), this is the sweet spot for a gift that’s not too pricey but is still a thoughtful item that will make me think of her every time I bundle up. Plus, she’ll be so proud of me for dressing appropriately.

BUY IT ($180)
