I’m a Celebrity: Who won the 2019 series?

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is back on our screens, with a new group of campmates taking part in gruelling challenges in the hopes of winning the competition.

Due to coronavirus travel restrictions, this year’s 20th anniversary series is taking place in Gwyrch Castle in Wales. You can find out more about the ‘haunted’ building here.

It’s worlds away from last year’s series, which was filmed in the show’s usual home of the Australian jungle.

2019’s edition was won by EastEnders actor Jacqueline Jossa, who played Lauren Branning on the BBC soap between 2010 and 2018. Latecomer Andrew Whyment finished in second place.

With her down-to-earth personality, commitment during the 10 tasks she completed and unfiltered comments, Jossa was quickly embraced by viewers. Many in particular loved her friendship with Caitlyn Jenner, after the actor revealed that she was obsessed with the Kardashian family.

However, the vote between Jossa and Whyment was extremely close, with the reigning queen of the jungle picking up 50.61 per cent of the vote while Whyment got 49.39 per cent.

Jossa will be returning to the show to hand over the crown during the series 20 final, which is expected to take place on Friday 4 December.

This year’s series may not have the excitement of being set down under, but viewing figures are up by nearly one million per episode compared to the first week of 2019’s series.
