The CEO and creative director of Indian jewellery house Amrapali shares the luxuries he'd rather not live without.

What does luxury mean to you?

The finer things in life, which aren’t necessarily the most expensive. It could be a weekend with my family at our farm, picking vegetables to eat for lunch. It could be meeting someone who is an intellect or an entrepreneur who inspires me. But, in materialistic terms, collecting watches is a true luxury.

Your favourite tailor?

Sean Christopher in Knightsbridge. I always go for a single-breasted suit with a two-button, medium lapel, because it’s classical and elegant.

Which type of shirt do you favour?

I like cut-away collars, and Egyptian cotton makes a big difference. I tend to buy mine from Turnbull and Asser.

What’s on your feet?

Bottega Veneta does very nice shoes which are not overly classical but are very comfortable. For sneakers, Off White is definitely my favourite.

Other little luxuries you love?

I like pocket squares, preferably Hermès. I have a passion for making and customising buttons for my Nehru jackets, and I love collecting brooches.

Your dream watch?

My dream watch is the one I have: a Patek Philippe Nautilus Annual Lunar calendar. I am constantly falling in love with various complications and I always end up buying the one I can’t get out of my head.

Private jet or yacht?

I would love a yacht, but my home is in Jaipur, with no sea or ocean nearby, so jet it is.

Dream drive?

As a child I always wanted to own a Lamborghini Countach, as I loved the scissor doors. But today it would be a Bugatti Veyron: not only is it beautiful, it’s one of the fastest supercars around.

If you could choose any architect to design your home who would it be?

Antoni Gaudí. His style is extremely distinctive and one-of-a-kind. The flow and organic forms of his buildings interest me. Whenever I see a building that I like, I always imagine how Gaudí would have designed it.

Artist you’d love to collect?

Banksy - I love his work and the message behind it. His art has had such an impact on society.

Collector’s item?

Silver ‘Makra head’ bracelets. I wear at least one all the time and want to collect enough to make a mini installation of my own.

Favourite restaurant?

Hunan, a Chinese restaurant in London. My wife and I have been going there with friends for many years and we still love the cosy atmosphere, the food and the incredible choice of wine.

Sight for sore eyes?

The view from Alila Villas in Uluwatu, Bali, and the view from the top of the Nahargarh Fort. I often cycle there on Sunday mornings to capture some images of Jaipur from this vantage point.

Ultimate luxury escape?

My wife and I have fallen in love with many places: the Maldives, Bali, Venice for the water, and Mexico - the food there is the best (and it gives Akanska a chance to practice her Spanish). When our son is a little older we’re planning to take him to Africa, and Bora Bora is on our bucket list too.

Home from home?

Gritti Palace in Venice is our favourite hotel in the world. We don’t travel as often as we’d like but as are always trying to find a reason to go to Venice.

What are you drinking?

I love red wine and a good whisky is something I always look forward to. I used to be a single-malt drinker but I have started appreciating other whiskies too. There is definitely a lot of hype around Japanese whisky but some of them are exquisite.

Which gadget do you have your eye on?

I love Apple gadgets so the new iPad Pro, but other than that I am starting to learn about telescopes. I’d like to buy one when I am ready to go on a stargazing trip to the mountains.

What single thing would make your existence more luxurious?

Having my team of craftsmen with me in London.

What luxury can't you live without?

My bracelets. They are a part of me now. Apart from that, probably my iPhone and iPad.
