This “Luxe” $40 Over-the-Door Organizer Saved My Closet

Bedroom closet with one door open to reveal interior

It’s safe to say that I have a bit of an accessory problem. I can never say no to a cute handbag, clutch, or baseball hat, and while I really do use all of my different pieces often, I recently found myself running into some major small-space storage issues. Keeping these items in boxes in my closet, which I had done for years, was great for minimizing visual clutter on the floors and on my dresser. However, when it came time to search for something I wanted to wear, it required a lot of digging and scrambling through various bins to locate things.

While scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled upon a creator who had installed a sizable organizer system on the back of her closet door, and I was immediately sold. While I’d always kept a small over-the-door hanger with hooks in that spot, this solution just wasn’t all that efficient given how many different accessories I own.

$37.99 (was $39.99) at Amazon

For the sake of time and ease of returns if needed, I turned to Amazon to shop for a closet door organizer of my own and landed upon this under-$40 system, which has truly changed my bedroom for the better (and is way cheaper than the Elfa version the TikToker had purchased from The Container Store). The four baskets provide me with plenty of room to house all of my small purses and clutches, and I use the plastic pockets at the top to hold other things, including slippers and cosmetic bags for travel.

I’ve also squeezed in some sunglasses and scarves on the sides next to my bags, which are placed throughout the piece. The bottom hooks are a game-changer, too, as I finally have somewhere to hang my large collection of baseball hats, making it easy to select whichever one I want when it’s time to get ready for an outdoor activity.

This organizing system was easy to assemble and is adjustable depending on the size of your door. You can also remove the baskets and play with their heights, if you want to. Because the organizer simply hangs over the door — no screws required! — it’s completely renter-friendly and easy to take with you if you’re planning on moving to a new space in the near future.

But what I really love most about this organizer is the way it looks — even though it’s generally behind closed doors. No shade towards canvas designs, but this sleek, ventilated metal design is infinitely more stylish and luxe. Mine is fully packed with things, so it almost recedes into the door. If I wanted it to disappear further, I probably could have found a white style. The black has a nice older-world feel to it, though, so that’s what I went with.

My New York City apartment bathroom is pretty small, which means that an over-the-door organizer like this one just wouldn’t be feasible there, but I would 100% use a system like this to house all of my many bath and beauty products if I could. I could also see using one in a laundry room or linen closet to keep track of cleaning supplies and other odds and ends that often get misplaced.

I wish I had thought of ordering a shelving system like this sooner, as it makes getting ready more luxurious, and putting everything away at the end of the day is easier, too. One day, I hope to be able to incorporate one of these into every room of my home!
