Lupita Nyong'o's revealing red carpet outfit had us doing a *serious* double take

Just when we were mourning the end of Cannes Film Festival and all the fab red carpet lewks that came with it, our fashion wishes were granted courtesy of last night's 2023 Tony Awards.

Held each year in New York, the Tony's are a celebration of the best actors and shows on Broadway – and naturally, the world's biggest stars go all out for the occasion. The 76th Awards saw everyone from Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams and Ariana DeBose to Killing Eve star Jodie Comer hit the red carpet in serious style.

But the undisputed highlight of the evening's red carpet? The 40-year old, multi-award-winning Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor, Lupita Nyong'o. Not only did she cover her newly shaved head in an intricate henna design by artist Sabeen Marghoob, but she also rocked an *incredible* black tux look that had us doing a serious double take.

It's a new, totally genius and more artist take on the naked dressing trend – and we're totally here for it. Lupita stunned in a black velvet tuxedo, that she paired with nothing but a silver breastplate underneath.

The piece in question is absolutely STUNNING: a bespoke creation by Pakistani artist and fashion designer Misha Japanwala, that runs all the way from Lupita's neck and down the length of her entire torso. The unique piece was cast and moulded directly on Lupita's own body, and it has an important, deeper meaning too.

In a post on Instagram, Lupita explained the story behind Misha Japanwala's work. "[It] is rooted in the rejection and deconstruction of external shame attached to one’s body," she writes. "In her artistic process, she creates a realistic and true record of a person’s body as an act of resistance and celebration, and an insistence on being allowed to exist freely in our bodies."

Now that's something we can *definitely* get behind! Lupita wrote that she was "Honored, humbled, strengthened and energized" to wear the piece for the event, dubbing it a "shameless out-of-body experience". It's all anyone in the fashion world can talk about today – and quite right too.
