Lupita Nyong'o Wore a "'Fro Bow," and It Might Be Our Favorite Hairstyle From Her Yet
Call it a whimsical break from all the delightfully creepy looks Lupita Nyong’o has been recently sporting. The star of Jordan Peele’s thriller Us traded her colored contacts for something decidedly less spooky: a head-turning ‘fro bow that is making us stan for Nyong'o harder than ever before.
The 36-year-old actress is known to do no wrong when it comes to her style, and she's continuing that proud tradition as she promotes her new film. Nyong’o’s gorgeous 4C kinky-coily texture was finessed into its adorable shape by her go-to hairstylist, Vernon François. “I wanted to create something fun and chic,” he tells Allure. “The main thing to be mindful of when creating a ‘fro bow is that balance is key. It doesn’t have to be neat, but the volumes need to complement each other on both sides. Once the hair is in a ponytail, I used a small braid in the middle to separate the two sections. [To style], tease the hair with fingers for your desired finished look and pin where necessary.”
As for products, François used two from his line: Overnight Repair Treatment Oils and the Styling Cream. To finish off, he added a spritz of Got2b hair spray for styling and hold.
Her soft spring makeup was done by Nick Barose and her outfit was styled by Micaela Erlanger. Nyong’o stepped out wearing a multi-colored Prabal Gurung dress, poppy red Nine West heels, a bright yellow Mansur Gavriel coat, and a Brahmin bag in a matching color. Behind-the-scenes during the getting-ready process, Nyong’o sang and danced to Bill Withers' “A Happy Day.”
