Lupita Nyong'o Debuts a Shaved Head On Instagram

While this summer might be the season of the bob, Lupita Nyong'o is making a very strong case for going even shorter. The Black Panther star took to Instagram this week to debut her new summer hairstyle: a completely shaved head.
The actor looks stunning — no surprise here — while pairing her new look with monochromatic makeup, featuring shimmery bronze shadow, a subtle peach flush on the cheeks, and a copper-toned lip color. "Happy without hair!" Nyong'o wrote in the caption of her selfie. "(Application for the Dora Milaje submitted! 🙅🏿♀️)."

Marvel fans might especially appreciate the reference she makes in the caption, with the actor including a coy nod to the all-female Wakandan group of warriors — a.k.a. the Dora Milaje — who are known for their elite fighting skills and shaved heads. If this helps manifest her character, Nakia, in Black Panther to join this incredible army of women, we're more than here for it.
Nyong'o has been gradually getting shorter with her hair this year, chopping off her locs and buzzing her hair just a few weeks ago with the help of her go-to stylist, Vernon François. Known for her structural and geometric hair towers, Nyong'o is a bona fide chameleon when it comes to her hair — and a pro at serving major looks on the red carpet (and beyond) whatever its length.
And this season, she joins the likes of Hailey Bieber, Cara Delevingne, and other celebs who are eschewing length for shorter hair as summer approaches. Just take it as further proof that less really is more.
