Lupita Nyong'o Is Slaying These Senegalese Twists

Lupita Nyong'o can do no wrong in my eyes. I would buy tickets to watch her read the phone book (kids, before the internet and smartphones, people kept contact info like names, address, and phone numbers in actual books).

Tuesday night, she stepped out at the National Board of Review Gala in a midriff-baring Balmain two-piece topped off with a mass of Senegalese twists coiffed into a side pony updo by celebrity hairstylist Vernon François. And yes, if you look closely, you can see those baby hairs are laid for the glory of Mother Mary.

Peep her hair from the side, and you'll find a few well-placed feed-in braids, adding a cool dimension to the style. It gives the classic '90s look of twists a modern update for 2018. I also love that she's wearing Balmain with a very "Around the Way Girl" side ponytail and slicked-down edges. It's giving me high fashion, yet still feels like home. I'm here for it.

Listen, Black Panther, which Lupita stars in, is coming out soon and I need to start thinking about my looks for opening weekend. This will definitely be an option I'll be taking to my hairstylist. In the meantime, I'll be patiently waiting to see what other hairstyles Lupita slays us with as she does promo for the highly-anticipated film.
