Lululemon's Newest Leggings are *So* Good for Serious Runners

Lululemon almost never misses the mark on the development of new products (especially leggings) and the just-released Base Pace High-Rise Tights (which launched in August) have quickly become my go-tos for just about everything workout-related. Here, specifically, is what I’m using them for…and what I’m not using them for.

Running & Weight Training

The Base Pace style is great for my running and weight training sessions precisely because of the way they support my performance at the peak of my workouts. They’re made of Nulux material which feels like a slippery blend of nylon and polyester—exactly what you want when you’re running in order to avoid the dreaded thigh chaffing. And when I say they’re weightless, I mean it literally feels like you aren’t wearing pants; they’re snug to your body without being overly constructed with seams and paneling.

I also appreciate the adjustability. If the waist is a little big on your frame, you can use the drawstring on the inside of the band to tighten them as needed. If you have shorter legs you’ll definitely want to opt for the 25-inch inseam, though you can also get them in a biker short version if long leggings aren’t your thing.

Yoga & Pilates

I found that these leggings are not my favorite for yoga and Pilates, thanks again to that slippery material. (The poses and positions were difficult to maintain because I was sliding around so much). If you want to wear the Lululemon brand to your next mat workout, I recommend a pair with more traction like the Aligns which are actually meant for yoga.

Lounging

These leggings are comfortable, but they’re better for performance than lounging, since the waist band is a little restrictive if you’re just sitting around watching “Virgin River,” and the material isn’t super snuggly, unlike my beloved Aligns.

Bottom line

I truly love wearing these for my outdoor and indoor runs as well as my Orange Theory hybrid classes (running, rowing and weightlifting), and I actually like the fact that I have a pair of leggings I dedicate exclusively to the gym, only because, up to this point, I used most of my leggings for lounging, too. My takeaway? If you are active at least four times a week, these leggings are definitely worth the price.
