Lululemon Gets a Little Hippie (and Trippy) With Its New Earth Dye Collection

Lululemon represents a lot of things to a lot of different folks. There are, of course, the leggings. No one doesn't know about the leggings. But there are also the pants—the brand's signature ABC Pants, specifically—which have their own cult following. Or the shorts. Their fans are legion, too. Ditto that for the sweats and the tees and everything else. So when you ask someone what they think of Lululemon, chances are you'll get a lot of answers.

But one thing that's relatively consistent is a sense that the brand makes products that are, on the whole, sleek and streamlined. It's true! There are tons of stealthy, techy options available right this very moment. But nestled alongside them for some time have been items with a little more...shall we say "earthiness," perhaps? They're patterned, or printed, or tie-dyed, and they look like they're pulling from the old-school, somewhat crunchy yoga vibes of yore along with the ultramodern ones of today. Frankly, they're unsung heroes.

Well, get ready to start singing. Because as of today, Lululemon is doubling down on those vibes with a collection of hoodies, joggers, and tees—with more to come over the month of May—that use dyes derived directly the plant waste of oranges, beets, and saw palmetto trees. The collection, fittingly, is called "Earth Dye," and the materials of the lower-impact hues come from byproducts of the "agricultural and herbal industries," according to the company. The clothes themselves, owing to the tie-dyeing effect, are all a little different from one another. A little less perfect and streamlined. And, hell, I'll say it again: a little earthier.
