Luke Wilson Reveals What Kevin Costner Taught Him on the Set of 'Horizon: An American Saga'

Luke Wilson couldn't take his eyes off of Kevin Costner while shooting Horizon: An American Saga—and it wasn't just the erstwhile Yellowstone star's good looks that entranced him.
"We were face-to-face, he'd say, 'You got it?' And I'd think, 'I didn't hear anything he just said,'" Wilson told PEOPLE of working with the Oscar winner. "I was just staring. I was just looking at him."
"I've always had a good work ethic, but then to see how hard he worked and how dedicated he is at age 68, it was really, really inspiring," he said. "I just learned so much from Kev."

Wilson said Costner's dedication inspired him to take a more active role in his own career and to pursue his passion projects "and not to just sit around and wait for things to come my way."

The Royal Tenenbaums star worked on Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 for the better part of a year and described the American Saga movies as "really just great, quality filmmaking," which he credits to Costner's zeal for the project.
Costner wrote, produced, starred in and directed all four of the Horizon films, and even self-funded the shoots. He said in his contentious divorce proceedings from Christine Baumgartner that he lost $10 million when he had to reschedule filming the movies and had to leave Yellowstone because Taylor Sheridan's scripts weren't ready in time.

"For me to get to work with Kevin Costner, I've just never had that kind of experience," Wilson gushed. "There are people I've gotten to work with a lot from the era. I've got to work with Nick Nolte and James Caan and Gene Hackman, those iconic '70s guys that were so incredible that my dad loved. But then, for me, I can remember where I was when I saw Fandango. I can remember the theater I was in with my first girlfriend when I saw The Untouchables and Revenge. [Kevin] was one of those people [who] I realized if he was in it, I would go see it, everything he made. I just was a really big fan."
