  • Country star Luke Bryan got a fishing hook stuck in his thumb, and shared a video of it on Instagram.

  • “This is gonna leave a mark,” he said in the video.

  • In good spirits, he also documented his journey to getting the hook removed.

On March 30, Luke Bryan took his guitar tech out for a day of fishing and ended up in the hospital instead. Why? Because the country star somehow managed to get a fishing hook stuck in his thumb. “Well, this is gonna leave a mark,” he said in a (kind of graphic) Instagram video of the injury. (You can see it here.) “Pretty sure that’s in my bone.” He captioned the clip with a single explicit descriptor: “Dammit.”

Despite having little mobility in his left hand, Bryan seemed to remain in high spirits, so the pain couldn’t have been too bad. The singer was mostly just bummed that they had to stop fishing in order to get help. He documented the entire journey on his Instagram Story.

“Leave it to me, I ruined the fishin’ trip,” he said to the camera as his guitar tech drove to their destination. “But we’ll be back on the water in about... 25 minutes.” He wasn’t kidding, either. In the next slide, Bryan appeared to be laying on an examination table. Using his non-injured hand, he filmed himself and his wife Caroline Bryan as the hook was removed off-camera. “We’re violating HIPAA somehow,” he said, screeching in discomfort. And just like that, in the next video, the American Idol judge and his friend were back on the water.

“Got the hook out!” he said from his boat, giving a thumbs up. “We’re back.” Let’s be honest, it’s probably not the first time he’s had a minor fishing-related accident like this one, which is likely why he shrugged it off. Some fans and followers, on the other hand (pun intended), had a very different reaction.

“Worst pain ever!!! Being hooked 🤦🏽♀️,” one Instagram user commented. “That hurt my hand just seeing this!” another added. Even Bryan’s mom LeClaire Bryan was concerned. “Oh my god. So sorry. Oh goodness,” she wrote.

Knowing he was OK, others joked along with the singer, writing comments like, “That’ll buff right out,” and “You’re supposed to get that part in the fish’s mouth Luke.” Hopefully, he learned his lesson this time.
