Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and More Stars Honor Country Legend Charlie Daniels Following His Death at 83
Country legend Charlie Daniels, who was perhaps best known for his hit song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," died Monday at age 83 after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke.
Country artists including Luke Bryan and Brad Paisley took to social media to pay tribute to Charlie's legacy and musical contributions.
The legendary singer, songwriter, and fiddler Charlie Daniels died on Monday morning after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 83.
Although Charlie was best known for his 1979 No. 1 country hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," he enjoyed a decades-long career as a singer-songwriter, the frontman of the Charlie Daniels Band, and a session musician who played with legends like Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, and Leonard Cohen.
Charlie was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. He also won a Grammy Award for best country vocal performance by a duo or group in 1979 for "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
As news of Charlie's passing spread across the music community, many musicians took to social media to mourn the loss of the Country Music Hall of Famer.
Luke Bryan tweeted a photo of him and Charlie performing together, captioning it, "Just learning of the passing of this great man. What a hero. A true patriot, Christian, and country music icon. Jason Aldean said he was "heartbroken" over the sad news.
"He was one of the nicest/kindest people I have ever met," Jason tweeted. "Thanks for the musical legacy u left all of us. We will miss you Mr. Charlie!"

Brad Paisley shared photos of him and Charlie, along some sweet words he had written for his late friend's biography.
"I wrote these words for Charlie’s biography. They ring even more true now. I’m so sad he’s gone," Brad wrote. "We have so many memories together, and I am so blessed to have known him. Rest In Peace my friend. We love you."

Tim McGraw paid tribute to Charlie's "brilliant songs and smokin' records."
"Oh man, sad to hear about @CharlieDaniels passing…I grew up on his music... brilliant songs and smokin' records," Tim tweeted. "And always, without fail, every time I had the pleasure of being around him, he was one of most genuine, kind and thoughtful folks I've ever run across."

Carrie Underwood, who performed with Daniels in TK year, posted a heartfelt tribute via Instagram: "I’m sad for the world and for his family...but I’m smiling a little because the angel band in Heaven just got themselves one heck of a fiddle player...see you again, one day, sweet Charlie Daniels."
