Lucy Liu Dyed Her Signature Black Hair a Warm, Sandy Blonde Color

Ever since Lucy Liu became a household name by playing Ling Woo on Ally McBeal 20 years ago, she has stuck to a signature look that makes her instantly recognizable: long, black hair. And if it ain't broke — and I think we can all agree, it definitely ain't broke — don't fix it, right? Wrong. Can't a girl have a some fun and change up her look a little? Or a lot? Yes, of course — and that appears to be exactly what Liu has done, debuting a breathtaking new blonde shade earlier this week.

People reports that Liu appeared Monday at the Obie Awards, an event honoring Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theatre productions, with a hair color unlike any we've ever seen on her before: a warm, sandy blonde. OK, we've seen her with blonde hair before, but only for about a minute in that ridiculous Charlie's Angels yodeling scene, and that was a wig. This could be a wig, too, for all we know, but it sure does look real — and really beautiful. The honey-like shade looks amazing against her warm skin, which glowed with a peachy blush at the New York City award show.

Liu was seen with her usual dark hair as recently as May 2, when she attended the Build Series at Build Studio, and unless the character she has played on Elementary since 2012, Dr. Joan Watson, is planning a major makeover of her own, it's probably safe to assume we'll see Liu return to her more familiar color soon. But in the meantime, we are 100-percent here for this unexpected transformation.
