  • Lucy Hale spoke about her 50 Shades audition and said she was "mortified."

  • Lucy auditioned for the role of Anastasia Steele, which ended up going to Dakota Johnson.

In case you're wondering just how awkward the audition process was for 50 Shades of Gray, apparently the answer is very. Like...verrrrrrrrry. Turns out Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale auditioned for the part of Anastasia Steele, and recently described it as truly mortifying.

"I was very young," she told The Associated Press. "It had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago, and I was, like, mortified." She went on to explain that while the audition wasn't "actual scenes from the movie," she did have to read a "very sexually forward monologue."

"I didn't really even know what I was saying in the audition, like I didn't understand" she said. "I was a little naive about it all ... It was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition like that."

So, what did the audition consist of exactly? According to Entertainment Tonight, Lucy told MTV News in 2014 that "The scene was, like, the girl telling her friends about some sexcapade she had, but it goes into extreme detail and uses the word 'sperm' a couple times...I was like, 'I don't know guys, I have to go home to my grandparent's house in a few months at Christmas, I don't know if I can do this.'"

Obviously, Dakota Johnson ended up being cast in the role and the rest is NSFW history.
