Lucy Hale Shared a Picture of Herself Getting an LED Facial

I was thumbing through my Instagram stories on Friday morning, and stopped dead in my tracks when I got to Lucy Hale's content. The brown-haired Pretty Little Liar had posted a selfie in which she looked like a glowing robot with zero explanation of what was going on. Obviously, I had to know more.

Turns out, Lucy was undergoing an LED facial, which uses light therapy to solve skin concerns. "LED Facials calm inflammation and redness," dermatologist Dr. Lily Talakoub of McLean Dermatology and Skincare tells Teen Vogue. "Acne patients, rosacea patients and patients with sensitive skin would benefit from LED lights the most."

Lucy has been open in the past about her struggles with cystic acne, and has tried some pretty out-of-the-box treatments in attempt to remedy it. In addition to double cleansing with DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, Restorsea Reviving Cleanser, and a Clarisonic Cleansing Brush, she recently revealed on Instagram that she also likes to calm her zits with an ice cold can of Redbull. These, plus light therapy, and she's got the skincare trifecta.

While it looks like Lucy's LED facial went down in a dermatologist's office (based on the medical equipment in the back of the photo), there are at-home options for anyone looking to test it out for themselves. Dr. Talakoub likes Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro, which she says can be used for 20 minutes every week (though it may not be as effective as the professional grade stuff). One caveat if you're thinking about investing? "Patients with a lot of dark spots or dark skin should be cautious of using them and if they do use them it should be done under the direction of a dermatologist ," she says.
