Lucy Hale Reveals the Skin-Care Product She Always Keeps on Her Nightstand

Don't feel bad if you haven't written the next King Lear or mastered the art of banana-bread baking while staying at home. Just follow actress Lucy Hale's lead and use this extra time for some self-care.

"I'm going to be honest. At the beginning...I thought I was going to work out every day and be in the best shape of my life. That has not been the case," Hale tells Allure. "I love group classes; I love being in a group environment when working out. So I'm finding it hard to [be] inspired to work out when I'm by myself — and that's OK."

But while practicing social distancing and self-isolating amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the 30-year-old has been spending most of her time cuddling her dog Elvis ("I think he's a little confused and thinking, 'Did mom get fired? Why are you home so much?'" she jokes), watching Ryan Murphy's new Netflix show Hollywood, and taking a break from her usual beauty routines.

"I'm taking the chill route," Hale says. "I haven't really seen many people or gotten ready for anything, so [I'm] keeping [hair and makeup] pretty low-key."

We've all had to reevaluate many routines while under stay-at-home orders. For many people, like Hale, this means focusing more on skin care and less on makeup and heat-styling hair. "This time has been such a nice break from not wearing makeup," she says. "I have just come off seven months of filming [Katy Keene], and my hair and skin were so tired. I just use sunscreen when I go outside and let my hair air dry. Hopefully, I come out of this with my hair stronger and skin a little healthier."

As she focuses on showing her complexion some extra care, she couldn't be happier than to partner with beloved skin-care brand Almay. "I'm thrilled," she says. "I'm all about clean products, and all its products are hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and [starting to be] more sustainable. It's a brand that just aligns with my life."

The new brand ambassador describes her complexion as oily and prone to breakouts and admits figuring out a skin-care routine that works for her took a while. "It's all trial and error, and I didn't figure [this] out until I was 30," Hale says.

Her regimen now includes masking regularly and incorporating a CBD face oil to calm acne. But the one product that's been her ride-or-die: the Almay Biodegradable Clear Complexion Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. "I always use makeup wipes when I wake up. At night when I'm too tired to do my routine, I have makeup wipes by my bed," she says. "They're biodegradable and just amazing."

As for her hair, Hale says she has not been tempted to do anything dramatic to her signature bob. "My hairstylist texted me the other day to make sure I haven't done anything stupid with scissors," she says. "I've been tempted to give myself a trim [because] I'm at this really bad in-between length, and it's flipping out at the ends. [But] I just put it in a ponytail, and we'll deal with that when this all ends. I have these children's craft scissors, and [a cut] would not be cute."
