Lucky Ski Patrollers Score First Powder Turns Of The Season

Well, it's happening. Somewhere in North America, people are powder skiing.

And by somewhere, I mean Silverton Mountain, Colorado, a unique resort known for offering heli-assisted runs and expert terrain.

Yesterday, October 3rd, a team of patrollers hit the resort's high-altitude terrain for some early-season powder turns, as shown in a series of photos shot by ski guide Marc Kloster.

From the caption:

"TODAY!! The early pow tradition lives on at Silverton, with a few lucky patrollers getting a ride up the mountain today to make the first turns of 23/24! El Niño tends to favor Silverton, so hopefully another BIG winter on tap! Yes this was TODAY 10/03/23."

And there were videos, too, also shot by Kloster.

I'm not jealous. You are!

According to Silverton Mountain's website, the heli-assisted season at the resort will begin on November 25th, with guided skiing/lift-serviced skiing starting on December 28th.

As noted before, Silverton does things a little differently, offering a combination of guided skiing and heli-assisted skiing. Later in the season, they also open their single chairlift for unguided skiers. The resort has no cut runs and no groomers. Click here for more information about Silverton's unique operations.

While yesterday's powder turns were worth writing home about, bigger news came to Silverton earlier this fall when the resort announced that it had been purchased and was changing hands. For more details about the sale, read this article from Powder contributor Cam Burns.
