Real Housewives of New York star Luann de Lesseps clapped back at a commenter who said she is “way too old” to be posting bikini photos.
De Lesseps responded by saying that she is “proud” to “rock a bikini at” 57 years old.
“Women should be able to wear whatever they want at any age,” she explained.
Luann de Lesseps, 57, is a Real Housewives of New York icon that fans can always count on to keep things real. So when the reality star received a negative comment on her latest bikini photo, she wasted no time in calling out the hater while offering up some pro-aging words of wisdom—and a bikini pic.
De Lesseps recently shared two photos on Instagram wearing a pink, gingham bikini. While she received lots of love, one person took to the comments section declaring that De Lesseps is “way too old” to be posting bikini photos.
In response to the age-shaming comment, De Lesseps posted a short and sweet video to clap back at the hater. “I’m proud of the fact that I can still rock a bikini at this age,” she said in the video. “Women should be able to wear whatever they want at any age as long as they feel good. So be cool, don’t be, like, all uncool.”
In the caption she added: “Haters gonna hate boo! 🙄🤸🏽♂️”
Her fans ran to the comments to offer up their support. One fan commented: “I saw those negative comments and was wondering if people were looking at the same picture I was?! You look amazing! You inspire me!” Another said “tell ’em lu! 🔥” while one fan added, “You look absolutely amazing—love this!! Classiest clap back award 🥇 👑”
De Lesseps posted the bikini photos over the weekend at a hotel in Beverly Hills, clearly enjoying the break from the cold weather in New York. And while the star received some rude comments on the post, she had lots of friends and fans showering her in positivity to block out the haters.
Fellow Real Housewives star Kyle Richards commented, “Looking good!” while Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell simply dropped a row of 🔥 emojis. “You look amazing 🔥❤️,” one fan added.
De Lesseps isn’t alone in her battle against internet hate and ageist, body-shaming remarks. Former supermodel and pro-aging activist Paulina Porizkova is no stranger to completely baring it all on Instagram, which often gets some of the same hateful comments that De Lesseps received. Thankfully, Porizkova is a pro at addressing the negativity while offering up positivity.
Not long ago Porizkova began an empowering movement after responding to a comment telling her that she is “too old and ugly” to post bikini photos on social media. “I get comments like these every time I post a photo of my body. This is the ageist shaming that sets my teeth on edge,” she wrote in response. Porizkova’s bravery and honesty inspired thousands of women to share their own bikini photos, sparking a widespread #oldandugly movement—even Real Housewives star Lisa Rinna joined in.
