Trey Holly made history four games into his senior year and on the Union Parish field on Friday, he was crowned the new Louisiana high school all-time rushing yards king.

The LSU commit dethroned former LSU Tiger Nick Brossette who had established the 8,704-yard record in 2014 while at University High (2010-2014). Holly needed 875 yards to break the state record going into his last season at Union Parish. Similar to Brossette, he was brought up to play varsity in eighth grade.

Holly was No. 2 in The News Star's inaugural Fab Four, a collection of the Monroe area's top college football recruits for the Class of 2023 as picked by the newspaper.

Before the 2022 season, the possibility to break the record became more and more of a reality. The 5-foot-8, 180-pound running back was adamant about wanting to break the record in front of the Union Parish (2-1) home crowd. The Friday matchup against Bastrop (1-2) was originally scheduled in Bastrop but field renovations pushed the game over to Farmerville.

Holly entered the game against the Rams with 639 yards on the season, meaning he had 247 yards left to top Brossette for the title. He was able to run that, and then some to make the record his own.
