This May, low-cost airline Avelo will begin flying between its Southern Connecticut hub, New Haven Airport, and four new cities: Atlanta, Concord-Charlotte, Knoxville, and Destin.

All of these flights will operate on a twice-weekly basis, with the exception of its 4x-weekly New Haven to Atlanta service. The route expansion will result in New Haven having nearly two dozen nonstop flights this summer.

“We are excited to offer Southern Connecticut residents even more travel options with the addition of Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville, and Destin,” said Avelo’s chairman and chief executive officer, Andrew Levy, in a statement provided to T+L. “Whether visiting friends and family or enjoying a leisurely vacation, Avelo offers time and money-saving convenience for Connecticut travelers. With 21 nonstop destinations, including eight Florida cities, flying from Tweed is easier and more affordable than ever. Additionally, when you consider our industry-leading reliability and caring Soul of Service, it is clear why almost 2 million people have flown Avelo at Tweed since 2021.”

Tickets are on sale directly through Avelo’s website, and the airline is offering promotional one-way fares for as low as $62 to celebrate the announcement.

When these new routes launch in May, Avelo will also establish Sonoma County Airport as its second West Coast base, supplementing its operations from Hollywood Burbank Airport.

The low-cost airline maintains six hubs across the country but has seen tremendous success from Tweed-New Haven Airport, where it’s currently the only commercial airline to offer nonstop routes. Avelo began operating out of this New England base in 2021 and has since focused on leisure destinations from the airport, including nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Avelo believes that it makes the travel journey much simpler by connecting smaller airports to popular cities, with a total of 47 destinations on its route map. In addition, Avelo maintains an all-737 fleet with “the lowest flight cancellation rate in the U.S. airline industry and ranked #2 in on-time reliability,” according to the airline.
