There’s a new season out of Netflix's popular British true crime series, My Lover My Killer, and understandably, viewers already have a lot of questions about some of the people who pop up on screen. In case you're not familiar, the series follows murders allegedly committed by “obsessive lovers,” or (usually) those who have been in a relationship with the victims, with each 45-minute episode featuring a different story.

The series, which includes first-hand accounts from friends and family members of the victims, originally aired in the U.K. in 2021, but season 2 just released on Netflix this February.

The first episode details the murder of Alice Ruggles by the hand of her ex-boyfriend, Harry Dhillon. If you’ve already watched the episode and are looking for more info about the man who appears on screen, or if you just want to get a head start, Women’s Health has collected all the details about where Harry Dhillon is now:

What happens in Episode 1?

The first episode of My Lover My Killer season 2 follows the murder of Alice Ruggles by her ex-boyfriend Harry Dhillon.

Ruggles met Dhillon through a Facebook post her friend made in 2015, the docuseries explains. The two began messaging over the Internet, and that became their primary form of communication–although they did meet up in person a few times. Their relationship moved “very fast” according to reports in episode 1, and quickly became unhealthy. Dhillon began belittling her, gaslighting her, and eventually cheated on her.

Ruggles ultimately ended the relationship and started seeing someone new, but Dhillon began to stalk her, leaving hundreds of messages on her phone each day, and even showing up at her house unexpectedly. Eventually, Ruggles filed a Police Information Notice (or PIN) report which officially notified authorities of Dhillon’s harassment at the beginning of October 2016.

However, the police did not take Alice’s report seriously, per My Lover My Killer, and Dhillon broke into Alice’s apartment and stabbed her six times on October 12, 2016.

The killer’s real name is Trimaan Dhillon.

Dhillon's real name is Trimaan, but he chose to go by Harry. Dhillon was raised in India in a “strict military upbringing,” per My Lover My Killer. He later moved to England to attend university, and eventually enlisted in the British Army. Right now, he's roughly 32 years old.

In the episode, Richard Wright, a prosecuting lawyer, explains that Dhillon’s privileged background likely had an influence on his obsessive behavior. “I think he was used to people doing what he wanted. I think he was a young man who was worshiped by his mother and his father, and he wanted other people to worship him in that way,” Wright said.

Ruggles' family thinks Dhillon hacked her phone.

During the episode, Ruggles' brother, Nick Ruggles, claims that he helped restore his sister's phone to the factory settings because she thought Dhillon was spying on her phone conversations.

Ruggles' family claimed that they thought Dhillon might have installed some type of spyware onto her devices because he allegedly knew information about personal cell phone conversations she was having with others.

“He knew things that he couldn’t have known unless he was spying on WhatsApp conversations,” Ruggles' father, Clive Ruggles, claimed in My Lover My Killer.

Dhillon had a history of stalking.

Before meeting Ruggles, Dhillon already had a restraining order filed against him by his ex-fiancée, Eniko Nemeth, in June 2013, according to The Times.

Dhillon had approached Nemeth and her new boyfriend after running into them on the street. Dhillon allegedly spat in Nemeth's face and called her a “bitch,” per The Times. Nemeth filed a restraining order following the incident.

Dhillon denied the murder at his trial.

Dhillon’s trial was held in 2017, and he was officially sentenced in April of the same year. He was 26 years old at the time. During the trial, he reportedly showed no remorse for his crime, and maintained innocence through inconsistent recounts of what happened to Ruggles, according to BBC News.

Chronicle Live reported that Dhillon claimed "she had accidentally stabbed herself while lunging at him," but that the jury didn't buy his story.

“Not a shred of remorse have you shown from first to last— indeed you were concentrating so hard on getting your story right when giving evidence you forgot even to shed a crocodile tear,” said Judge Paul Sloan after Dhillon’s sentencing, per BBC News.

Where is Harry Dhillon now?

In 2017, Dhillon was found guilty of Ruggles' murder and sentenced to serve at least 22 years of a life sentence for his crime. He is being held at HM Prison Durham, according to The Chronicle Live.

In 2020, Dhillon was reportedly petitioning to complete his sentence in India, according to BBC News. Ruggles' parents were against this proposal. “He’s made threats against the family,” Ruggles' mother said to BBC News. “[We] want to know where he is and whether we are in danger if he's been released.”

Her parents then said they wanted Dhillon to serve his whole sentence in the United Kingdom, per BBC. The docuseries explains that he likely wouldn't be relocated until the end of his minimum 22 year-sentence, but no new information has surfaced regarding the issue.

“If he goes back to his home country, then that would mean that we wouldn't know where he is, we wouldn't be given information every year like we are now, we would just be constantly worried that he'd been released without our knowledge,” Ruggles' mother told BBC News.

Her family has set up The Alice Ruggles Trust to help other people who experience stalking.
