What to Know About Idina Menzel's Husband Aaron Lohr Before Watching Her New Disney+ Film

Idina Menzel and husband Aaron Lohr are a pretty private pair. But the Tony-winning actress and the former Broadway actor’s love for one another is no secret. Now, folks might get a glimpse of their relationship in the singer's new Disney+ documentary Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?.

Idina and Aaron first met while filming the 2005 movie version of the hit Broadway musical Rent (Idina's then-husband Taye Diggs was also in the movie). That same year, Idina and Aaron were co-stars in the off-Broadway musical See What I Wanna See.

In 2013, Idina and Taye announced their divorce after 10 years of marriage and finalized it in 2014. They have a 13-year-old son named Walker.

Not much is known about how Idina and Aaron reconnected, but they let the world in on their newfound romance at the White House Correspondents’s Association Dinner in April 2015 when they made their first red carpet appearance as a couple.

That August, The Los Angeles Times reported that the pair had bought a Mediterranean-style house in Encino, California for $2.675 million. The 5-bed, 6-bath home was said to span a whopping 4,708-square-feet with stunning views of the city and canyons.

On September 23, 2016, while thanking her fans for supporting her recently released self-titled album Idina, the singer announced on Twitter that she and Aaron were engaged. He reportedly popped the question with a "two-carat vintage, platinum-diamond baguette ring," according to The Knot. It also had a hand-engraved floral pattern on the band.

“What an incredible week. Thank you to everyone for all your support with the album,” she wrote. “As if this week couldn't get any better I have wonderful news... my man and I are engaged! We are so happy. It's a beautiful time.”

Idina and Aaron officially tied the knot on September 22, 2017. The two secretly exchanged vows in an intimate backyard ceremony at their shared home.

“Wanted to let you know... Married the love of my life #aaronlohr this weekend @ our home,” she tweeted several days later. “Dad & son walked me down aisle. It was magical.”

“Thank you to everyone who helped make my wedding day so special,” she added alongside two wedding photos.

Idina has been open about always making her son a priority through her life changes, which involves co-parenting with Taye. "Your child comes first. That's all. It's all about that. He comes first and you have to get past your own egos and you never talk bad about each other," she said in a People Now interview.

Taye echoed similar words. "We were friends to start out with, but especially when you have a kid in the mix, there's no time for any negativity," he told the same outlet in 2019.

As for Walker’s relationship with Aaron, the two get along well. “They’re very close,” Idina told People in 2017. “They’re probably watching a film, or they run around play dodgeball with a sock, they make a ball out of socks and they hit each other.”

Aaron no longer acts and is now the clinical director at Avalon Malibu, a mental health and addiction rehab center, where he’s been since its opening in 2012. Still, as you can see above, he joins Idina in singing from time to time, like for their festive take on “I'll Be Home for Christmas.”

When asked by People about her beau, Idina gushed, “He’s my guy.”
