Love Island's Lucie responds to Yewande and Amber's tweets

Following the circulation of screenshots allegedly showing Lucie Donlan, who competed in the 2019 series of Love Island, claiming that she was "bullied on the show" by Yewande Biala, winner Amber Gill has now stepped in to defend her friend. The unearthed screenshots appear to show Lucie responding to a fan who asked about a YouTube video her former love interest, Joe Garratt, had filmed with Yewande, in which the latter apparently labelled Lucie as a "horrible person".

In her response on social media, Lucie (a surfer, who is currently starring in an Ann Summers campaign) is thought to have responded with, "She’s always bullied me, I’m not bothered about her opinion… makes her look bad. Not sure where she said that though!"

Now, since the screenshots have been widely circulated on social media, both Yewande and Amber have responded denying that Yewande bullied Lucie. Instead, they've both tweeted that Lucie never even bothered to learn how to say Yewande's name correctly. "You refused to call me by my name because it was too 'hard to pronounce' now you wanna say I bullied you!! Bullied," wrote Yewande.

Following Yewande's tweet, Amber also aired her opinion on the matter and wrote in reply, "Na when she said can I call you 'Y'... I said lol no you can’t can I just call you 'her' you were peaceful in that exchange It was me with the vim 😂😂😂." She then later quote tweeted a fan who shared a fighting video game gif with the caption "This is is @AmberRoseGill right now", and said: "😂 Call me problematic but if I see something false or that I don’t like I’m speaking regardless and if it’s about my friend I’m yelling idc."

Not long after Amber and Yewande's tweets, fellow contestant Amy Hart also reacted to the bullying claims and appeared to confirm that Lucie had refused to learn Yewande's name. "My final thought of the evening, this beautiful, respectful QUEEN has sat on this for almost two years. We haven’t spoken about it publicly because it was Yewande’s story to tell. I remember dates, times, locations of every conversation in that villa. There’s so much you don’t see".

Amy also shared a gif showing a scene from Friends where Joey is attempting and failing to learn French, along with the comment "‘Is there really NOTHING else I can call you?’":

Lucie has not been active on Twitter since October 2020, but in a conversation with MailOnline on 19 January, she said:

"These are really old comments dug up purely to incite a row between two females. In this day and age and with everything going on in the world, we should all be sticking together not attacking each other. I've been sent death threats which are incredibly scary as you can imagine.

"I said on the show I had trouble pronouncing Yewande's name, it's just what I'm like. And I asked if I could use a shortened abbreviated version of her name instead as a term of endearment – there's nothing sinister to it. I regret how just a few old comments sent 18 months ago has snowballed like this and got out of hand, and drummed up some needless negativity. Can we all just move on from this please?'
