Love Island fans are calling Mitchel out for his comment about Leah during the recoupling

Love Island fans have been criticising Mitchel for a comment he made about Leah during a recent recoupling.

In a Love Island first, this summer series aired their first day-time recoupling yesterday [18th June 2023], which saw the male contestants standing around the fire pit and choosing the person they wanted to recouple with.

After Zach picked Molly and Mehdi went for Whitney, it was then Mitchel's turn to choose. Up until this point, he has been coupled up with Molly, but the original islander made it clear she was interested in getting to know Zach, so they went their separate ways.

During the recoupling, Mitchel chose to couple up with Leah, adding during his speech it was because she "had a good body."

Considering some of the other Islanders had referenced things like "she makes me feel very happy in this villa" and "she never fails to make me laugh", some people called Mitchel out on socials for making it about how she looks.

"From Sammy calling Leah just a test to Mitchel mentioning her body in his speech…I too would be upset #LoveIsland," one viewer wrote, also referencing Sammy's recoupling speech.

Someone else said, "EVERYONE LOOKING DISGUSTED WHEN MITCHEL SAID LEAH HAD A GOOD BODY" while a third added, "I do feel horrible for Leah though like that’s so disrespectful for Sammy to say and then for Mitchel to turn around and objectify her in his speech right after it’s just… whew when are women gonna be seen as WOMEN."

Leah was visibly upset during the episode, mainly down to Sammy's comment about her being a "test" for his connection with Jess. Here's to hoping she's feeling better in tonight's episode!
