Why 'Love and Hip Hop Hollywood' star Ray J proposed to his wife, Princess Love, twice

The stars of Love and Hip Hop Hollywood, Ray J and Princess Love Norwood, may be a happy little family now. But when they first met, the two never could have predicted that they would end up together. In fact, Norwood admits that Ray J didn’t even look at her during their first introduction.

“Our friend Jackie was like, ‘Hey, have you met Ray?'” Norwood explains to Yahoo Lifestyle. “He was, like, looking in a magazine, and he just kept looking in the magazine. He like didn’t even say hi.”

However, it seems that Ray J quickly regretted his decision when he ran into Norwood a second time and immediately realized that “she’s the one.” And the feeling was definitely mutual.

“He felt like someone that I knew already,” she says. “It was just a comfortable energy. And then one night, everything changed.”

That night was New Year’s Eve, when both Ray J and Norwood attended the same party. Norwood was dressed in a catsuit for the evening and made Ray J feel like Batman. The feeling sparked a connection that Norwood felt too — likening it to a look in his eyes that signaled to her that they were no longer just friends and that he wanted to be more.

Norwood acted on the feeling by linking arms with Ray J, which he felt was leading to a “happily married ever after.” Still, it actually took a breakup for the couple to realize that they were meant to be. It was a realization that came on so strongly that they got engaged once they got back together — twice!

“We got engaged twice,” Ray J says, before explaining that he had simply given Norwood a ring before properly popping the question. After that, it was another few months before he pulled off an extravagant proposal.

“We were going to go to Arizona to go to a basketball game,” Norwood explains. “So we get to the private jet, he’s like helping me carry my stuff, and I turn around and he’s like down on the ground.”

Norwood quickly said “yes,” and Ray J presented a “big rock” for her finger. When she walked onto the plane moments later, her friends and family were all there to congratulate them.

“A really, really, really emotional magical moment,” Ray J says, although the two would likely agree that the birth of their daughter, Melody, was the even bigger life-changing part of their relationship. But both say they’re surprised she didn’t come along sooner.

“We really did it the traditional way, which is shocking,” Ray J says. “I proposed, we got married, and then, by the grace of God, Melody was born. And then we lived happily ever after.”
