I Love Everything About Meghan Markle’s Fall Wardrobe, But This Blouse Is What I’m Wearing on Repeat

The clock struck autumn and it’s like Meghan Markle knew just how eagerly the world had been awaiting her sartorial influence to strike once again.

First, there was a surprise appearance to see Beyoncé, then there were the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany. Finally, a trip last week to New York City in honor of World Mental Health Day and the first-ever in-person Archewell Foundation event. Like me, her fans reacted to her fashion first. I was lucky enough to snag her Banana Republic Factory pleated LBD (on sale, it’s just $84!) and still have my eye on Markle’s stunning Cuyana ensemble (silk trench and paper bag pants included), which is now available to pre-order.

But it was her Dani blouse from L’Agence ($345)—worn ever so briefly to a NATO event during Invictus—that I couldn’t stop thinking about. It was elegant. It was effortless. It also had all the makings of a fall wardrobe staple.

It’s Worth Noting That Meghan Markle Has Introduced Us to a Lot of Great Button-Ups

First and foremost, there was the Husband Shirt, a Misha Nonoo original, which Markle famously wore as she debuted her relationship with Prince Harry way back when in 2017 at the Toronto Invictus Games. There was also her Ralph Lauren pinstripe moment at Wimbledon in 2018, followed by her choice to wear a linen blend from Frank & Eileen while on tour in Australia later that same year.

Bottom line: Markle has forever demonstrated the enduring power of the classics in our closet and the button-up—be it in crisp white cotton or a caramel-colored silk—is no exception.

Why the Dani Blouse from L’Agence Is Worth It

Let’s talk about the fit. When it comes to a blouse like this, it can be hard to tell how the sleeves will fall or the length will hit. I’m petite at 5’2” so decidedly a bit shorter than Markle. (According to reports, she stands a few inches taller at 5’6”.) But there are a couple of features about this blouse that made the fit quite flawless.

First, the three-quarter sleeve length. No wonder Markle’s Cartier Tank watch was on full display! With the Dani blouse, you don’t have to worry about the sleeve slipping down and becoming irksome throughout your day. With my arms fully extended, the sleeves reached a touch longer than they did on Markle (again, we’re different heights), but I loved that they still barely skimmed my wrist-bone and I didn’t have to fiddle with it as I tapped on my laptop, carried a coffee or ran errands around town.

Second, the cut—specifically, the high-low variation of the hem. There’s nothing I love more than a blouse that comes with a bit of butt coverage. This one does. But it’s also easy to tuck in without getting all bunched up at the waist. The finished look felt as if I paid to have it tailored—a win.

More details to love: the color. (I mimicked Markle’s choice to wear Fawn, but the blouse is available in a range of hues.) It felt earthy and luxe. Also, the feel of the material. In silk charmeuse, it was soft, comfortable and cool. (I also opted to pair it with a wide-leg camel-colored pant from Madewell in an effort to replicate Markle’s Invictus look.) It’s worth noting that I followed the sizing chart measurements closely when placing my order. I found the shirt to run true-to-size, based on that.

The price point is on the higher side, but this is a fall blouse that is an investment that you’ll reach for over and over again. As I mentioned, I aimed to match Markle’s Invictus look, but it also looks lovely styled with a darker-hued jean and boot. Is it the best thing Markle has worn this year? That’s hard to say—plus, we still have a few months to go and I’m counting on more sartorial influence from the Duchess of Sussex to round out the year. But as a versatile and stylish neutral to add to your fall wardrobe, this blouse is a can’t-miss.
