The Love Is Blind reunion was so deeply uncomfortable: why all the relentless baby questions?

As we all know by now, the Love Is Blind's 'live' reunion (which ended up being delayed and, err, not live after all) was packed full of drama: Micah and Paul came face to face, we got to see if Bliss and Zack stayed together, and Irina even put in an appearance to try and defend her behaviour.

I'm a huge fan of the show. A big, huge fan. And of Vanessa Lachey too, might I add. But watching that reunion made me uncomfortable on so many levels... and not just because at one point they played a clip that TikTok had tried to portray as Paul hitting on one of Micah's bridesmaids. No, for me, it was co-host Vanessa's grilling of the cast about their plans to have children, delivered with all the tact of a brick to the face.

As well as playing a clip from former contestant Bartise Bowden, who appeared holding his baby son Hayden and asking "Who is going to be the first to become parents?", Vanessa got more than stuck in with asking the same highly personal question, phrasing it as though bringing life into the world is an inevitable, not a choice.

"Okay, seriously, if that doesn't make your ovaries burn... I don't know, I want a number four so bad," she began. "Okay, I need to know, who's is going to give me our first Love Is Blind baby? I don't wanna ask if you're trying because that's TMI, obviously you all are intimate."

First, Vanessa asked fan favourites Brett and Tiffany Brown about their future plans for children, which is evidently not something they'd been expecting to be hauled over hot coals about on semi-live television and in front of a studio audience.

"What are you guys thinking on the baby timeline?" Vanessa asked, to which Tiffany politely explained they're just enjoying travelling and being together and Brett replied, "I was just about to make a joke, like Jesus, ya'll really put the baby pressure... My god."

Like a dog with a bone, Vanessa then asked Brett (who is a shoe designer), "But how cute are baby Air Force 1s going to be?" (and again, he handled it with grace saying "When baby Brown gets here, they'll be fly").

Contestant Chelsea then admitted that when she entered the experiment, her biological clock was ticking, but now she's going to "step back" and let it happen whenever it happens, again echoing Tiffany's sentiments that she's just enjoying married life for a while, and Bliss happily admitted "she can't wait" to have Zack's babies – but no time soon.

Despite the castmates humouring the awkward question, it was still hella awks for us as viewers – because it's 2023 now, right? Why do we still think it's our business to know what anyone else's fertility plans look like? What if one of the couples had been trying to fall pregnant, but not having any success with it? How insensitive is that, putting them on the spot? And also – reminder! – people (and women especially) are more than just 'future parents'.

Others picked up on the off vibes too, with one viewer tweeting: "Besides the delay, the worst part of the Love Is Blind reunion was Vanessa Lachey pressuring all of the couples to have babies. Everyone knows to be delicate around motherhood & fertility issues except Vanessa Lachey on 'LIVE' national TV apparently."

Another tweeted, "The push on babies on the Love is Blind reunion was kind of cringe. They have no idea if some of them struggle with fertility, if some had already dealt with a miscarriage they aren’t ready to talk about, etc."

I feel like I've written this same piece a few times over the years, as have plenty of others. So, please... can this be the last time all this needs to be said? Stop. Asking. People. About. Baby. Plans.
