Louis Tomlinson Thinks One Direction Is a "Pretty Corny Name"

That one HURTS, Louis!

Louis Tomlinson started a new gig as a judge on The X-Factor Saturday September 1, and obviously, plenty of Directioners tuned in to watch the 26-year-old return to where it all started for 1D. But no one was quite ready for what he revealed when another boy band took the stage to audition; according to Louis, he and his bandmates didn't exactly love the name One Direction.

"You know the thing is with a name, I don't think any of us were ever a massive fan of One Direction," he told the boys from No Labels before they began their performance. "If you think about the name, it's a pretty corny name."

Liam, Zayn, Harry, and Niall haven't responded to Louis's comment, but we'll take his word for it. If you can't figure out whether to laugh or cry, you're not alone — but hey, you've got to love him for his honesty. Fellow judge Robbie Williams, who sang in the British boy band Take That in the early 90s and reunited with them again in 2010, quickly chimed in on the topic of bad names. "Take That's horrendous," he responded, to which Louis agreed.

Of course, One Direction fans quickly took to Twitter to react to Louis's not-so-little secret. "OK, Louis, that hurt," one person wrote. Another let their emotions ring out by saying, "I felt a big part of my heart break." (Same, same.)

As it turns out, Louis wasn't a massive fan of No Labels' performance, either. According to Metro U.K., after Simon Cowell expressed his distaste for the audition, Louis followed up with, "Everything we’ve just seen is almost everything we were trying to avoid in One Direction. Was that too harsh?"

If his honesty is any indication of what the rest of the season will be like, we can guess Louis will make a great judge. Now let's turn our attention back to the most important question of all: when will one (or all) of his bandmates come on the show for the 1D reunion we all need? A Directioner can dream.
