Louis Tomlinson Says a One Direction Reunion Is "Inevitable"

Don't play with my heart this way!

Hold on tight, One Direction fans — that reunion isn’t a lost cause yet. Just ask Louis Tomlinson, who seems to think it’s definitely in the cards.

In a new interview with ITN, the singer-songwriter revealed that he thinks a 1D reunion will happen. “I'd certainly have something to say about it if it didn’t,” Louis added. “I think it's inevitable. When is the big question. That's something none of us really know the answer to at the moment."

OK, we can definitely work with this. It’s not a “no,” and it’s not even a “maybe,” it’s more like a “yes” — just not right now. And if there’s one thing to be said about Directioners, it's that they are willing to wait for what would ~inevitably~ be an epic reunion. What’s more, this isn't the first time that Louis has hinted about the boy band potentially reuniting; in September 2018, he said that “there’s no way” that it wouldn’t happen. We stan an optimistic legend!

But this time, Louis noted that he thinks it’s crucial for all of the 1D members to continue exploring their solo musical journeys before teaming up again. “I feel like what's most important is that when we do get back together, we're all on the same page and we've all done what we want to do individually,” he said. “That's vitally important for when we get back.” And he has a good point; through their solo careers, the One Direction singers have established their unique individual styles and talents, which will only yield a stronger sound if and when they take the stage together once again.

In fact, Louis himself performed on Saturday, May 4 at the Free Radio Hits Live event in Birmingham, which marked his first time returning to the stage since the tragic passing of his sister, Félicité Tomlinson, who died in March.

Regardless of everything that’s transpired since the beginning of 1D’s hiatus, it’s clear that the singers have nothing but love for their time together, and each other. “When I look back on One Direction and the memories that we had, it's only incredible memories,” Louis told ITN in his recent interview, adding: “We started off as a boy band and where we ended up musically was a very different place. I'm really proud of those times, definitely.”
