Lotus has received 17,000 orders so far in 2023, a massive jump over the 576 cars it shipped and sold in 2022, Top Gear reports.

That 2023 number, as Top Gear notes, is a record-breaker for what was once a low-volume sports car brand. While Lotus has not announced how many of those cars will actually be shipped in 2023 to make a final sales number, the 2200 examples of the Emira built in 2023 alone suggest that the company will end the year with a respectable final number. Eletres are also expected to begin deliveries in Europe soon, beginning the brand's transition into an electric performance and luxury company set to fight directly against competitors like Porsche over the coming decades.

In addition to the gas-powered Emira sports car and electric Eletre SUV, the near-future Lotus road map will also include an electric sedan, a smaller electric sports car on par with the brand's more traditional offerings, and the electric Evija hypercar that has already been revealed.
