In the age of Hollywood, it's a rare commodity to find friendships that can span longer than the entirety of working on a film or TV show together. But some people just seem to click. Take Sandra Bullock and George Lopez, for example. From the outside, it almost seems like The Lost City actress/producer and the comedian behind the upcoming NBC sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez would have almost nothing to do with each other. After all, she's best known as a movie star, and his bread and butter is TV comedies.

As it turns out, the two have quite a bit of history together — more than two decades of it, in fact. The duo's friendship actually dates back to 2000, when Sandra's production company Fortis Films was looking to showcase Latinx talent in the form of a network TV show. Enter George, who at that point was working the comedy circuit and hadn't made a splash as a comedian.

The two reportedly met at an improv show in Brea, California. According to People, Sandra drove an hour from L.A. to Orange County to sit in the crowd and watch George up on stage. Fast forward, two years later, George was the leadman of his own hit series, George Lopez, and

"From the time Sandy and I first laid eyes on each other, she has been nothing but a person of her word and embracing of me and my family,” George told People in a 2010 interview. “We always trade off poses, like gang poses. It's beautiful. I love her!”

Now, aside from Sandra being George Lopez's executive producer, fans may also recognize her for portraying a rather clumsy character — Accident Amy, who was prone to just getting hurt while on the job at Powers Aviation. When asked by her Lost City costar Channing Tatum in a March 2022 Wired interview about why she chose to be on the show, her answer was nothing if not frank.

"Because I produced The George Lopez Show," she said. "Any chance I got to be Accident Amy on The George Lopez Show, I took it ... I think it brought him such great pleasure to see like a hammer hit my head.”

But their friendship spans more than just comedy and starring on a TV show together. The duo has been there for each other through the highs and the lows. George not only knew about Sandra secretly adopting her son Louis, when news about her ex-husband's alleged infidelity broke in 2010, he stepped up and visited his friend at her then-Hollywood Hills home to make sure she was OK.

“She’s my fairy godmother,” George told E!’s Daily 10 in 2010, according to People. “She knows how much I care about her. When times are tough, friends step up.”

Now, we know Bullock doesn't live on social media, and as far as we can tell, George hasn't featured his long-time friend on his official Instagram account. But that doesn't mean we won't see them together in the future again. After all, Sandra did make an appearance on George's first TV show. Who's to say she won't bring back another version of Accident Amy to his new one?
