Lost Baby Walrus in Alaska Who's Getting 'Cuddle Therapy' Has Captured Everyone's Hearts

A team of oil field workers in Alaska recently saved a Pacific walrus pup's life after he was found alone and lost on the state's North Slope. The young animal was in a very unusual place for his species--over 4 miles inland from the Beaufort Sea.

Luckily, the Alaska SeaLife Center could take in the rescued walrus. The one-month-old arrived at the center on August 1 and has received around-the-clock care from wildlife rehabilitators. Take a look at this adorable --and massive-- baby in a video from @skynews!

The Alaskan SeaLife Center staff are so lucky to add 'walrus cuddler' to their resumes, but not quite as lucky as the big calf himself. As the center explained to CBS News, it's essential that baby walruses stay with their mothers during the first two years of life. This lost walrus must have been separated for a while, as he was malnourished and dehydrated when he was found. Fortunately, he seems to be in better health now that he's being cared for.

The baby hasn't yet been named, but several TikTok commenters are hoping for a monicker resembling the food he looks like. Just take it from viewer @mbfaccessories: "he's the most beautiful giant baked potato I ever did see." LOL!

It's great news that this walrus pup is doing well enough to enjoy around-the-clock cuddles instead of around-the-clock medical care, and it's only looking up from here. Even so, the marine life rehabilitators are learning all they can from this rescued animal and his care. He's only the tenth walrus to ever come to their facility! It's pretty cool to think about how he's helping his rescuers just like they're helping him. We can't wait to watch him grow up!
