If you like Super Sentai – or its Western counterpart Power Rangers – then you’ll want to keep an eye out for Go, Go, Loser Ranger! It first launched as a manga in 2021, and has started getting localized into English fairly recently. Now, it’s getting an anime, and it looks utterly fantastic in its first trailer.

Go, Go, Loser Ranger! is a pseudo-parody series of Super Sentai and tokusatsu series in general. In it, a group called the Divine Dragon Rangers came together to wage a war against a gigantic monster army that started invading Earth thirteen years ago.

The problem is that the Divine Dragon Rangers are quite good at what they do, and they defeated all the monsters within about a year. They were very popular though, and to keep up that popularity they subjugated the monster army, and now trot them out once a week to keep up appearances in public displays of power.

One of those monsters, a low-level henchman called Fighter D, has decided that enough is enough, and starts to rebel against not only the Divine Dragon Rangers, but society as a whole. I’ve read the first few chapters of the manga and it’s very good — an absolute must-read for any tokusatsu fan, especially fans of Power Rangers.

The new trailer, currently available only in Japanese with no subtitles yet, shows us the Divine Dragon Rangers in action, where we can see them mercilessly crushing monsters in front of scores of adoring fans. We also get to see Fighter D starting to rebel, encouraging his fellow henchmen to rise up and fight back for a better future.

It’s all beautifully animated, having been directed by Tiger & Bunny director Keiichi Sato, and produced by Yostar Pictures, which has worked on other anime like Azur Lane, Blue Archive, and more. Keiichiro Ochi, of The Quintessential Quintuplets fame, is heading up the series’ composition, so we should be in for a treat when it finally airs.

So far, no English release for the anime has been announced, but Go, Go, Loser Ranger! will air in Japan sometime in 2024. Fans are hoping that the series gets picked up by Crunchyroll or Netflix, but we'll have to wait and see where it ends up for its English release.
