It's a long-standing tradition that new inductees to the Country Music Hall of Fame get to choose a member to welcome them into the prestigious group. But this year, when Alan Jackson requested Loretta Lynn-a member since 1988-he knew there was a chance it wasn't going to happen, since Loretta was hospitalized after suffering a massive stroke just five months ago. But on Oct. 22, the coal miner's daughter made a surprise appearance at the ceremony, just for him.

Though she appeared somewhat weak and slightly disoriented, the 85-year-old country singer took to the stage-with help from George Strait and another aide-to deliver a heartwarming speech, according to CMT News.

Loretta first met Alan when he was just starting his country music career. "I told him [then] he was going to be one of the greatest singers in country music," she said. "He hasn't let me down."

Despite her ongoing recovery and cancelled tour dates, Loretta seemed right at home on stage talking to Alan. "Now, this is the first time I've been out of the house, Alan," she said, according to Win 98.5. "You're the only thing that would've brought me here. I love you, honey, and I want to say congratulations, and I am so proud of you."

After Loretta's speech, Alan was presented with his Hall of Fame medal. Soon after, Loretta led the inductees, performers, and audience members in singing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."
