On Tuesday night, Todd Tilghman was declared the winner of The Voice's spring 2020 season.
Upon hearing the announcement, coaches Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Blake Shelton applauded the Mississippi native for his victory. In particular, Blake, Todd's coach throughout the competition series, was especially ecstatic for his mentee.
Praise from Blake wasn't the only thing Todd won last night, though. Per The Voice's website, the top contender on the NBC series is set to "receive the grand prize of a recording contract."
But is that all? It's difficult to tell, especially since past winners — like season 14 victor Brynn Cartelli — have also reportedly been awarded a $100,000 cash prize. Still, nothing on NBC's website indicates that'll be the case for Todd. To get a clear answer, Good Housekeeping has reached out to NBC for comment on what Todd's winning package will include (we'll update this post once we know more).
Whether or not Todd is awarded a cash prize in addition to a recording contract though, the artist received a huge amount of exposure being on the primetime show, undoubtedly making it all worth it. Not only that, but throughout the competition, Todd got to work with Voice advisor Bebe Rexha, perform his original track "Long Way Home," and sing alongside the likes of CeeLo Green and Shakira in the finale. Needless to say, for an up-and-coming artist, experiences like these are, indeed, priceless.
Prize talk aside, it's clear that Todd is beyond thrilled to be season 18's winner. On Instagram last night, the talented artist posted an emotional photo from the moment he found out he had won.
"I love y’all so much. I can’t believe it," he wrote.
