Look: Snowboarder Gets Swept Away By Snow On Steep Terrain

After a recent snowfall back during this winter in Italy, Marco Bassot had a bit of a scary situation when he stopped in the middle of a descent and his sluff caught up to him, carrying him farther down the hill. It could have been bad if he was in a worse area, but luckily the snow pushed him between a few rocks instead of over them... Watch the clip below:

You might be asking what sluff is? In snowboarding, "sluff" refers to loose snow or small chunks of snow that move downslope during a descent. Sluff is a natural phenomenon that occurs as a result of gravity and the movement of the rider on the snow. When a snowboarder carves or makes turns in deep snow or steep terrain, they can dislodge loose snow, causing it to slide downhill alongside them. Sluff can vary in size and consistency, ranging from small, powdery particles to larger chunks of snow and the speed depends on the incline of the face.

This all happened in the Dolomites. Also known as the "Dolomiti" in Italian, the area is a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They are part of the Southern Limestone Alps and stretch across the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol, Trentino, and Udine. The Dolomites are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their unique and extraordinary geological features, rich biodiversity, and stunning landscapes.

They are renowned for their striking and dramatic rock formations, towering peaks, and picturesque valleys. The mountains are predominantly composed of dolomite rock, which gives them their characteristic pale color and unique appearance. The Dolomites offer a remarkable blend of jagged peaks, sheer cliffs, deep valleys, and alpine meadows, creating a visually breathtaking environment.
