Giray Dadali Skis Alta On First Day Of Summer; There's Tons Of Snow Left

Alta, Utah, closed its lifts to skiers months ago, but that doesn't mean all the snow is gone.

In fact, after a historic winter that featured non-stop storms, the snow's still looking more than skiable up at Alta. Here's proof featuring pro skier Giray Dadali as he rides Alta during the Summer Solstice.

From Alta's post:

"While it’s officially summer, we still have a ways to go until the Summer Road, Cecret Lake and other trails around Alta melt out following a 903-inch winter. Pro tip: If you’re headed for a hike around Alta this weekend, pack the snowshoes instead of flip flops."

Solid advice. Summer or not, I couldn't imagine climbing up Alta in a pair of flip-flops.

Alta also reminded skiers that because the resort is closed, previously inbounds runs are technically backcountry terrain until the ski area reopens next winter.:

"Backcountry conditions exist. Carry and know how to use avalanche gear. There is no ski patrol. You are responsible for your own rescue. Hazards are not marked. Equipment may be encountered on the slopes."

That said, as long as you've got the backcountry know-how, Alta remains a good summer skiing option for the foreseeable future.
