Look: Longest Bodysurfing Barrel Ever?

The clips have been flooding in from Boa Vista Surf Village, the new, innovative, and massively entertaining wavepool just outside of São Paulo, Brazil.

And the latest? Waterman and bodysurfing legend, Mike Stewart, clocking in what has to be one of, if not the, longest tubes ever ridden sans surfboard.

From a rudimentary analysis (read: hitting play on the video, and opening the stopwatch app on my iPhone), the tube clocks in at around 17 seconds. And while there’s no real award for “Longest Tube by a Bodysurfer,” if there were, this one might take the cake. (Although there might be an addendum being that it’s in a wavepool, not the ocean.)

Regardless, it’s an objectively long barrel.

“Yesterday afternoon I got some of the longest bodysurfing barrels of my life, miles from the nearest ocean,” wrote Stewart in the caption. “Amazing times we live in.”

And commenters agreed:

“Legend,” wrote fellow bodysurfer and big-wave hellman, Kalani Lattanzi.

“Board or no board …you the man,” penned longboard legend, Joel Tudor.

“So epic!!” said former pro and big-wave charger, Shane Dorian.

For a little more info on Boa Vista, here’s the gist: It’s a hotel, property development, golf course, etc. For the wavepool, they have PerfectSwell technology from American Wave Machines – the same tech seen at Waco Surf in Texas. The pool is six acres, which is twice the size as Waco. There’s a variety of different waves on the menu – one wave that offers not one, but two air sections, which is pretty much unheard of at other wavepools – and it can allegedly produce between 120-160 waves per hour.

Stay tuned for more craziness from Boa Vista to come.
