The musical based on the hit film is holding its world premiere.

On the evening of August 3, Elton John attended The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical at Chicago’s James M. Nederlander Theatre.

John, along with lyricist Shaina Taub, wrote the music for the new show, which is based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling 2003 novel and the subsequent 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

The musical is currently staging its world premiere engagement in Chicago; you can catch it through August 21 with a speculated transfer to Broadway next year (though nothing has been announced).

When John stopped by to see the show, he was treated to a standing ovation upon entering the theater, per a press release. At the end of the performance, he headed backstage to greet the cast and snap some photos. He wore a bright red and navy patterned button-up shirt underneath a navy jacket, paired with red-tinted shades and black-patterned slacks.

The show—directed by Tony award-winning Anna D. Shapiro—stars Tony Award winner Beth Leavel as Miranda Priestly, Taylor Iman Jones as Andy Sachs, Javier Muñoz as Nigel Owens, Christiana Cole as Lauren Hunter, Megan Masako Haley as Emily Charlton, Tiffany Mann as Kayla Ward, Michael Tacconi as Nate Angstrom, and Christian Thompson as Christian Thompson.

The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical is described as "a glamorous and hilarious story about finding your place and discovering what matters most."

It follows the film's fictional Runway Magazine, the supreme authority of the high-fashion world, run by the ruthlessly exacting Miranda Priestly.

Andy Sachs joins the magazine to start her career as Priestly's assistant, but while a million people would kill to be in her shoes, having to deal with the legendary Editor-in-Chief isn't exactly a dream come true. Eventually, she must choose between her dream career and her happiness, something many in the workforce can relate to during the current great resignation.
