Normani is one of the hottest singers around, and we love just about everything she does. But still, we have to ask: where’s the damn album???
For years, the singer has been teasing us all by announcing a solo album, and we’ve been patiently waiting. Now, it seems as though our waiting may be paying off, as the singer has finally announced the name and release date of her upcoming solo debut!
Let’s take a look back at how we got here, and where we’ve been on this magical (and arduous) journey...
2018: Fifth Harmony breaks up

Normani first became a household name as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony along with Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Camila Cabello, and Lauren Jauregui. After six years together, the group officially split in 2018, with members saying they were going to focus on their solo careers.
2018: Normani announces she has her album title

On June 20, 2018, Normani announced on X (back then it was Twitter) that she had her album title, leading fans to start predicting that music could be coming any day. However, apart from some singles and collaborations, nothing came for YEARS, leading to a now famous meme of a fan responding each year on the anniversary of Normani’s announcement.
2018: First solo single

Normani’s first single as a solo lead artist was the collab with Khalid “Love Lies” from the Love, Simon soundtrack. The song was her first top ten solo hit, peaking at number nine on the Hot 100.
2019: "Dancing With a Stranger"

In 2019, Normani continued the collaborations, dueting with Sam Smith on the song “Dancing With A Stranger.” To date, this is Normani’s biggest solo artist hit, peaking at number seven on the Hot 100.
2019: "Motivation"

2019 also saw Normani’s first true solo song, the bop “Motivation,” which reached 33 in the Billboard Hot 100.
2019: Sweetener World Tour
That same year, Normani joined Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour as support from March to June. Grande was one of the songwriters on Normani’s hit “Motivation.”
2021: "Wild Side"

After featuring on the soundtracks for the 2019 Charlie’s Angels and 2020’s Birds of Prey, Normani released another single, “Wild Side” with Cardi B. The song reached number 14 on the Billboard charts. Still, after four top 40 singles over as many years, we had no new news at all about an album.
2022: "Fair"

In March of 2022, Normani released her single “Fair,” performing it on The Tonight Show.
2024: Album announcement...FINALLY
Finally, this year, on February 21, six years after she first announced that she had her album title, Normani gave us the announcement we’ve all been waiting for!
“Cryingg typing this rn,” the singer wrote on her Instagram and Twitter along with a picture of her in a black bikini straddling a black rocket. “DOPAMINE THE ALBUM.”
There we have it! Normani’s long-awaited debut album will be called Dopamine! She’s also laughing at herself, asking fans to go to wheresthedamnalbum.com to pre-save the album, which is slated to come out later this year on an as-of-yet unannounced date.
