This past week, the style crowd landed in London for the second leg of the fashion month tour. And trendsetters packed plenty of street style looks to inspire your wardrobe, just as they did with green frocks, shoes, and bags at New York Fashion Week. Across the pond, many London Fashion Week attendees forwent the sky-high stilettos direction in favor of classic, cool sneakers.

Mainstream athletic footwear brands like Adidas, Nike, New Balance, Salomon, and Fila stood out as the labels of choice for the fashion set. Even celebrities like Jordan Dunn, who wore Nikes, and Coi LeRay Collins, spotted in cool Asics, incorporated practical-yet-stylish sneakers into their calculated front row-ready outfit equations. Do the ladies of London prefer comfort over style? Not necessarily. Running in heels from show to show can take a toll on a fashionista’s feet, but the more comfortable option of a classic sneaker provides an effortlessly cool touch to a wide range of garments, from flowy dresses and wool maxi skirts to relaxed tailoring separates. Nothing quite balances fanciful frocks quite like casual cool-girl kicks.

We eyed some designer shoe collaborations, too, like Nike x Jacquemus shoes and Nike x Martine Rose MR4 Mules, plus popular limited-edition styles like the Nike SB Dunk Low Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Dunky shoes. Even a few big names in fashion wore luxury sneakers, including Vogue China Editor in Chief Margaret Zhang’s JW Anderson Gorpcore hiking sneakers and fashion journalist Susie Lau’s silver Chanel sneakers. But the majority of showgoers opted for classic sneaker silhouettes, like Nike Air Force 1s, Adidas Samba sneakers, and New Balance 480s, crystallizing understated footwear styles as choice shoes for fashion lovers.
