Loki Season 2 Final Episode Breakdown: What Just Happened?

Loki season 2 has ended, and the consequences could be massive on the multiverse.

Episode 6, titled Glorious Purpose, has far-reaching implications not just for Loki, (Tom Hiddleston), but the entire MCU at large.

So let’s break down the Loki finale. What happened, and what does it mean? Be warned, spoilers follow.

LOKI SEASON 2 SPOILERS

What a way to open. Welcoming us into the episode is the classic Marvel title card, only it’s in reverse, subtly playing with our concept of time. Thankfully, the rest of the episode is not in reverse.

Loki timeslips into the chamber seconds before Victor Timely died in episode 4, warning O.B. what’s about to happen. Timely ends up dying anyway, so Loki asks O.B. what they could do to prevent it. O.B. says they need to waste less time, so Loki slips through time to shave seconds off of everything that's happened before. Centuries pass for Loki.

He even goes back in time to the season 1 finale and tries to stop Sylvie from stabbing He Who Remains. He Who Remains, however, says that dying is all part of his plan.

To get answers, Loki timeslips to season 1's first episode when he first met Mobius, then returns to the events of episode 5 to question Sylvie. After speaking with them, he says that he now knows what kind of God he needs to be.

Loki attempts to fix The Loom himself, and in the process, gives us one of the standout moments in the entire series as his clothes transform into a new version of his Loki costume. He uses his powers to repair The Loom.

The TVA is now back to normal, it's working diligently to keep a close watch on He Who Remains variants, and the timeline is under control, now viewed in its proper form as the Worldtree.

It feels like a satisfying ending to a season which had been threatening to veer off into a convoluted mess, neatly wrapping up various plot threads while leaving the door open for Kang and the upcoming superhero team-up movie Secret Wars.

And, unlike season 1, it hasn’t left us on a cliff-hanger, with the Loki producer saying there are no plans for Loki season 3.

That’s all the more time to enjoy this one.
