Logan Paul Addressed His Controversial Videos in a New Interview With Casey Neistat

"I jumped off a bridge in Italy, is that culturally insensitive? Is saying 'mamma mia' culturally insensitive?"

In a new video posted by fellow YouTuber Casey Neistat, Logan Paul has addressed the controversy surrounding his triggering video from the Aokigahara forest that he posted nearly six months ago.

The video interview, which lasts for nearly thirty minutes, shows Casey asking Logan whether he believes the content he chose to share was "culturally insensitive." As Buzzfeed noted, Casey points to an accompanying video from Logan's trip to Japan that featured the YouTuber exploring Tokyo in different outfits including a Pikachu costume and a kimono. The clip also shows Logan throwing Pokeballs at pedestrians and using fish and squid he purchased from a market for "content."

Logan questions why those parts of the video were deemed culturally insensitive, saying, "I jumped off a bridge in Italy, is that culturally insensitive? Is saying 'mamma mia' culturally insensitive?" Casey then responds, saying, "Dressed as a Pokémon throwing a Pikachu at the car, I absolutely think is culturally insensitive." Logan goes on to defend his actions, saying it was just "insensitive."

Logan goes on to say, "I don't think what I did was right. I'm just saying there's a difference between being culturally insensitive, insensitive towards a culture, and overall insensitive, which is what the old Logan Paul had an issue with, and had a problem with." He also says that he's continuing to "work to not ever" have a moment like that again.

Along with a discussion of Logan's accompanying Tokyo travel vlog, Casey also asks the vlogger about his decision to post the triggering video from Japan's Aokigahara forest. Logan says, "I forgot to be a human being in that situation and instead decided to be a content creator, and that's where I messed up."

Before the interview began, Casey opened up about his decision to conduct the interview, and admitted he was unsure whether sharing the conversation was the right thing to do. "To be totally honest I wasn't sure, I'm still not sure, if releasing it is the right thing,” he said. “My very specific intention with this interview was to see if he was sincere about what he's trying to accomplish with this documentary or if the whole thing is just a charade for good PR and now I feel like watching this interview over and over and over I still I don't know, there's a little bit of me that thinks maybe I'm enabling Logan.”

Logan has faced continuing backlash from social media and celebrities since he originally posted his videos from Japan back in January 2018. He later apologized and addressed the triggering video in an accompanying YouTube post, but was later caught up in controversy again for posting a video in which he mistreated a dead animal.

YouTube had announced it was removing ads from his channel in February, but the ban was lifted after 18 days. Logan has since returned to the platform, and during his interview with Casey, he announced plans to share an upcoming "comeback documentary."
