DANIELS, WV (WVNS) – Local Raleigh County 4th graders are becoming one with nature and picking up some new skills.

The WVU Extension Office has partnered up with Raleigh County 4H to create an outdoor classroom.  In this class, the kids had the opportunity to go through six different stations that had six different activities. They learned all about textiles, trades, and tastebuds.

Extension Agent, Barbie Little says, “They actually learn how to make a healthy snack; one that they can make on their own in their home. They learn about vaping and the harm they can do to the tastebuds. For textiles, they learn about how to weave and where the cloth actually comes from. They also make a know-so tie pillow that they get to take home with them.”

The kids are also learning more about the engineering mindset during these classes, as well as electrical circuits by making their own LED flashlights.

4H Camp is also coming up this summer. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, you can contact the Extension Office at (304) 255-9321 or visit this link to sign up.
