Local business hosts first Abilities Day field trip for Topekans

TOPEKA (KSNT) – People of all abilities gathered at the Topeka Zoo this morning for Abilities Day.

Dialogue Coffeehouse and the Capper foundation hosted the first Abilities Day field trip at the Topeka Zoo. It offers anyone with disabilities to have a safe, inclusive space to meet. Monday, many people got to hang out with the animals at the Zoo. The Capper Foundation started Abilities Day this year. Its goal is to help everyone be included with fun interactions outside their normal services.

Chelsea Huston, Capper Foundations manager and event coordinator, told 27 News how important this event is to the foundation and to everyone who attends.

“We really want to capitalize on this new program that is abilities day and how do we keep growing it and making it bigger and we want to do events like this every six months or quarterly or however it may be,” Huston said.  “But we want to grow it and show how important inclusion is in this community.”

More than 300 guests piled into the zoo in just 30 minutes. Abilities Day is hosted by the Capper Foundation usually at the beginning of each month.
