CHILLICOTHE — As Valentine's Day is approaching some people are planning the perfect date while others are looking forward to cozying up with a good romance book. From summer romances to slow-burn enemies to lovers, the tropes in romance books are endless which is why almost any reader will be able to find a book they like in the genre.

The owner of Wheatberry Books, Chelsea Bruning, said in recent years the romance genre has seen a shift, becoming more inclusive and less stigmatized.

"There is something for everybody," said Bruning, even those who don't typically read romance books.

While recommending romance books she first always suggests reading local authors from Ohio like Kerry Winfrey, author of books such as Very Sincerely Yours and Just Another Love Song, and Emily Henry, author of books such as People We Meet on Vacation and Book Lovers.

Of course, there are many other romance books available for readers, Bruning also recommends authors like Helen Hoang and Christina Lauren. She said the romance genre has everything from aliens and Greek mythology to women in STEM to read about.

To help readers find a book they love without judging it by the cover the store is currently running a Love at First Snetece event where romance books are wrapped in paper, making them a mystery until bought. The only thing a reader knows before checking out is the first sentence, a summary and the spice level.

While you are checking out the best books for February at Wheatberry make sure to also ask about the Date in a Bookstore drawing. On Feb. 10 Bruning will be drawing one name out of a jar and that person will win a complimentary dinner to be held on Feb. 17 for two at the bookstore. Food will be from The Pour House at Machinery Hall and the winner will receive 20% off any books they buy during the date.
