Apr. 20—Local author Sherry (Krick) Owen will be signing her recently published book, "Pretty Porches and Glorious Gardens of Rushville and Rush County" from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25; noon to 5 p.m. Friday, April 26; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Vogel's Florist, 359 E. Sixth Street, Rushville.

Owen said "Pretty Porches & Glorious Gardens of Rushville & Rush County" is a tribute to Rushville's community leaders, elected and otherwise, and the town's citizens who keep the community beautiful by being good stewards of their porches and properties.

She compiled the 72-page book as a result of what she called divine inspiration.

"After the horrors of the pandemic, I was looking for a way to find positive in our community instead of debating political views on Facebook," she said. "God clearly spoke to my heart that very day about posting the pretty porches I was witnessing on my bike ride."

Soon after making social media posts featuring images of some of the pretty porches she saw and thanking local citizens for taking care of their properties, the idea took off.

Owen said "Pretty Porches & Glorious Gardens of Rushville & Rush County" gives a personal glimpse into her hometown community and highlights the beauty we have all around us.

"Take the time to look around at your surroundings," she said. "We are all proud at how our community is coming back to life, and people are showing it by taking pride in their homes. We have enjoyed several improvements after being chosen as the recipient of the Stellar grant. Thank you, Rush County leaders and community!"

Owen is a 1977 graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School. She graduated from cosmetology school and did her apprenticeship at the Barber Pole on Madison Avenue in Indianapolis to qualify for her Master License. She also took some college prep courses at Ivy Tech.

Her parents are Louise and the late Robert Krick of Rushville.

She has been married to Mike Owen for 32 years.

She is retired, but stays involved with St. Mary's Catholic Church.
