You’ll Never Guess Where This Tiny Nantucket-Style Cottage is Located

It might not be a surprise to hear that, upon stepping outside of this quaint Nantucket-style cottage, you’ll be met with a cool breeze. Clad in shrub-dotted weathered wood shingles and crowned with a cupola, it’s the perfect fit for the salt-air-scented shores of New England.

But the breezes here aren’t the product of a beachside locale, but of its reach-for-the-sky elevation five stories above the streets of Manhattan.

Nestled in the East Village atop a prewar building, the tiny cottage is part of the penthouse unit, which occupies the top two floors. The entire unit is currently up for grabs for a buyer who’s nostalgic for the New England coast (and who has $3,500,000 to spare).

Formerly an artist’s residence, the penthouse includes a 3-bedroom living space and art studio in addition to the rooftop cottage, which is used as a guest house with its own bath and kitchenette. Inside the penthouse, cottage details abound with two wood-burning fireplaces, large double-hung windows, and an aqua-painted bath.

Like any true Nantucket cottage, wraparound windows and a terrace make admiring the views an easy activity – though, here, sand and sea views are traded in for the skyline of lower Manhattan.

Nevertheless, the unique rooftop structure proves one thing: you can take the beach lover away from the coast, but you can’t take the coast out of the beach lover.
